About us

What we do

Proyecto Florecer disrupts the status quo. We are a social enterprise based in Medellin, Colombia that creates generational change by promoting self-sustainability for the populations we serve. We empower the communities we work with to “receive by giving” through service to their community. We manage community kitchens and educational programs that serve the local community.

We follow a model of “education in action” and practical application in real world scenarios like event planning, restaurant and hospitality management, and entrepreneurship. We also create an environment of social inclusion for marginalized and at-risk Colombians and Venezuelans and a space for cross-cultural exchange between program participants and an international community of interns and volunteers.

We empower the communities we work with to “receive by giving” through service to their community.

Why our work matters

There may be no better place in the world to run a social enterprise with a 10-year Impact Plan than Medellín, Colombia. From the most dangerous city in the world a generation ago, to  the most innovative today, it is the ideal place to launch our STEMprendimiento technology and math education program for young entrepreneurs.

The communities we serve are vibrant with love and social connections but scarce on economic resources. Mothers struggle to put food on the table and often don’t have resources to buy even the most basic school supplies for their children. Families are important but often there’s no father in the home or involved in the children’s lives. All of this  perpetuates cycles of gender inequality, premature pregnancy, and poverty.

One way or another, every woman we serve has suffered some kind of trauma: abandonment, sexual violence, exile from their social structure, etc. According to the World Bank’s Gini Index, Colombia ranks #7 in the world for the greatest income disparity, making it nearly impossible for them to pull themselves up the ladder to economic stability. Providing higher education to their children seems unsurmountable. This creates a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure.

Proyecto Florecer breaks a link in this chain by offering the women and children we work with a view into education and business practices from around the world through our workshops and education programs led by a dynamic network of professionals.

Proyecto Florecer breaks a link in this chain by offering the women and children we work with a view into education and business practices from around the world through our workshops and education programs led by a dynamic network of professionals. We offer access to community, education, and resources that heal, nourish, and uplift. Employees from our local corporate partners provide insight into careers that inspire the kids to stick with their studies.

Our goal

Our goal is that as they grow older, the children who we serve today will receive offers for scholarships, internships and employment, based on our education programs and the relationships we’ve created with local companies. Our mission is to create a pipeline of inspired, well-trained employees of the future.
