About us

What we do<span data-metadata="">

Proyecto Florecer disrupts the status quo. We are a social enterprise headquartered in Medellin, Colombia with participants in various parts of Mexico. We provide educational programs in the communities we serve.

Our workshops focus on personal growth and emotional intelligence to foster connection at the individual, family and community level. We also offer vocational training and nutrition education. Our programs create an environment of social inclusion for marginalized and at-risk Colombians, Venezuelans and Mexicans, and a space for cross-cultural exchange between program participants and an international community of interns and volunteers.

<span data-metadata=""><span data-buffer="">We empower the families we work with to practice the skills they learn in our programs with each other at home.

Why our work matters<span data-metadata="">

There may be no better place in the world to run a social enterprise with a 10-year Impact Plan than Medellín, Colombia.

The communities we serve are vibrant with love and social connections but scarce on economic resources. Parents struggle to put food on the table and often don’t have resources to buy even the most basic school supplies for their children. Families are important but often there’s no father in the home or involved in the children’s lives. All of this  perpetuates cycles of gender inequality, premature pregnancy, and poverty.

One way or another, every participant in our programs has suffered some kind of trauma: abandonment, sexual violence, exile from their social structure, etc. According to the World Bank’s Gini Index, Colombia ranks #7 in the world for the greatest income disparity, making it nearly impossible for them to pull themselves up the ladder to economic stability. Providing higher education to their children seems unsurmountable. This creates a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure.

Proyecto Florecer breaks a link in this chain by providing tools to build resiliency, hope and stronger family ties through our workshops and education programs.

Our goal<span data-metadata="">

Our goal is for our participants to become role models and catalysts for positive change within their families and social circles and strengthen the social fabric of Medellin by promoting solidarity, mutual respect, and collective well-being.
